Maison Cascavel, Réserve Léonor Vin issus de Vieilles Vignes de la Réserve de Biosphère du Mont Ventoux, AOC Ventoux, Rouge, 2018

Cascavel's Grandes Cuvées are exceptional wines produced in partnership with talentuous winegrowers offering us the privilege of connecting their know-how to ours. From a rigorous selection of the most beautiful vineyards, grapes are traditionally vinified.

The story
Our Reserve Léonor Vieilles Vignes “Old Vines” is from selected plots and grown on the slopes northwest of Mont-Ventoux. This wine is made from fully matured grapes.
Nestled at the foot of Mont Ventoux, more precisely on the north-western slope, the terroir is located near the Beaumont du Ventoux, Malaucène et Le Barroux villages. Real greenery in Provence, with manmade shaped scenery where vineyards share space with other traditional cultures of Provence such as fruit and olive trees.
This generous and naturally well-balanced wine comes from old vines located on the North-western slope of Mont Ventoux. The terroir benefits from a Mediterranean climate and stony clay-limestone soils. Plots are cultivated in terraces and often surrounded by groves of truffle oaks and fruit trees. A Winegrower's trail enables to discover territories’ harmony in this "Biosphere Reserve" protected by UNESCO.
In the vineyard
The surface area of the plots is often less than 2 hectares. The soils are stony clay-limestone. The exposure is North-West. The altitude of the plots varies between 300 and 500 m.
The grapes are picked at full maturity. After fermentation, a four weeks’ vatting allows obtaining a beautiful concentration and fine and silky tannins.
This wine is then aged for 18 months, including 12 months in oak barrels (80% of the final blend).
Syrah : 80%
Grenache noir : 20%
Alcohol content: 15 ABV
Allergènes: Contains sulphites.

Ageing potential
5 years
Tasting notes
This cuvee can wait a few years to fully express its potential, while generating an exceptional pleasure right now too. Revealing all the generosity and the richness of Mediterranean blends
Visual appearance
This wine has a beautiful deep red ruby colour with bluish reflections.
At the nose
. The nose is powerful and complex, combining aromas of black fruit, vanilla pod scents and mocha, while presenting great purity.
On the palate
The palate is full and concentrated with a nice tension. We find there jammy fruit aromas and a nice minerality (shale), all balanced and fresh. With remarkable elegance and nice length in the mouth, a royal finish with cherry and brandy notes.

"A barrel-aged blend of Grenache and Syrah, the 2017 Ventoux Reserve Leonor is plummy and earthy, with notes of licorice, mocha and leather adding a modicum of complexity. It's medium to full-bodied and coarsely textured, with a rough, slightly rustic feel to the tannins but plenty of persistence on the finish." [+]
